Facing East
These are photographs, taken in nature, and not of paintings. I have relied on the standard limits of the photographic medium, depth of field and focal plane in particulal, as well as strongly backlit subjects, to render effects simlar to the ink and watercolor paintings originating in China and Japan. For me, these images are both beautiful and bleak—beautiful renditons of the fall colors that remain into mid-winter amid the bleak backdrop of dormant nature.
